Appeals
Information about School Admission Appeals
Parents/carers whose child has applied to be admitted to the School but has not been offered a place, either in Year 7 or any other year group, are entitled to appeal against that decision to an Independent Appeals Panel.
Year 7 Appeals (as part of the main Admissions process for September 2026)
Parents/carers wishing to appeal must register for their appeal, ahead of the deadline, by completing the Appeal Application Form, which will be available from the Admissions Office after 2 March 2026 (admissions@patesgs.org).
If your child is not successful in gaining a place at Pate’s Grammar School for entry in Year 7 in September 2026, you do have a statutory right to appeal before an Independent Admissions Appeal panel. Additionally, if you believe extenuating circumstances may have affected your child’s performance on the day of the test, this may be grounds for your appeal. Reasons might be medical, or a recent family bereavement, for example. However, having a sibling at the school, transport issues, or extra-curricular achievements are not considered sufficient grounds for appeal.
If the child does not have a test rank, parents/carers will also need to register for an Appeals Test at the same time as registering an appeal – this should be indicated on the Appeal Application Form. The School will make arrangements for an Appeals Test in April and will thereafter convene an independent panel to hear all appeals together as quickly as possible.
Appeal Hearings will take place in May/June, with exact dates to be confirmed nearer the time. Any late appeals received after the deadline will be heard at a later date.
To lodge an appeal for your child, please request an Appeal Application Form from the Admissions Office (admissions@patesgs.org) after 2 March 2026. Completed forms should be emailed to the same email address or posted to Pate’s Grammar School, Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham, GL51 0HG.
Deadline to submit the Appeal Application Form to Pate’s Grammar School: 22 April 2026 (3.00pm)
Deadline for submitting any additional evidence for your appeal: 29 April 2026 (3.00pm)
Please note that the school will be closed from 28 March to 12 April 2026 (inclusive) so please allow time to request your Appeal Application Form and to return it before the deadline above.
