Our Houses

We hugely value our House system at Pate’s; it underpins each student’s personal experience of Belonging at Pate’s.

Our House system consists of 5 Houses: Beaufort, Gloucester, Pembroke, Richmond, and York. Every student, from Year 7 to 13, is assigned to a House when they first join the school and remain a member of that House throughout their time here. The House is also the basis upon which students are inducted into life at Pate’s.

House competition ensures numerous co-curricular opportunities for students to excel beyond the classroom. House Spirit drives many areas of Pate’s life; the House instils, in staff and students, great loyalty and pride.

Each House is led by a Head of House (staff member), assisted by a group of 12 Sixth Form House Officials who organise, manage and run House events. Within its aspirational environment, our House system unites all year groups and brings a strong sense of belonging through its supportive network, promoting friendship bonds in all areas of school life.

House Official roles are highly regarded, and senior House members benefit from developing their own leadership skills and act as excellent role models for younger students, leading and supporting them in House activities and events.

House co-curricular competitions welcome all students to get involved, regardless of experience or ability. Annual House challenges include:

  • Art
  • Bake Off
  • Chess
  • Debating
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Public Speaking
  • Sports Day
  • Swimming
as well as a multitude of sports competitions for every year group; Cross Country being the newest addition to this portfolio, and annually bringing the supporters out in droves!

Whatever the event, Pate’s House System fosters a culture of team spirit, healthy competition, and is typically one of the most cherished aspects of school life for Patesians during (and after!) their time at school.
