Wednesday 15 April 2026 Gloucestershire Grammar Schools Appoint New Provider for Admissions Test The seven Gloucestershire Grammar Schools (G7) have appointed Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE) as their new admissions test provider for entry to Year 7 from 2028 onwards, following a comprehensive competitive tender process.

Tuesday 24 March 2026 Work Experience for A Level German Students The Year 12 Work Experience exchange is a fantastic opportunity, exclusive to very few schools in England. The 50 year-long special relationship between Pate's and the Lina-Hilger Gymnasium in Bad Kreuznach is an invaluable asset to the German department at Pate's. The two schools run exchanges every year, open to Years 9 and 10 students and, of course, our Work Experience Exchange for those studying German in Year 12.

Monday 23 March 2026 House Swimming Gala 2026 On 10 February, our House Swimming Gala took place at Leisure at Cheltenham, in their 25m indoor pool.

Sunday 22 March 2026 MFL News Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) are popular and thriving subjects at Pate's, with all students taking two languages from French, German and Mandarin in Years 7 and 8, extending to Spanish as another option in Year 9. All of these languages are offered at GCSE, with French, German and Spanish also options at A Level. This term's MFL news largely focuses on language trips and exchanges to France, Germany and Spain, and those stories will follow separate posts. Here, we focus on some of the other achievements of Pate's linguists, which date back to last term to give a rich picture of the language and culture experiences from which our students greatly benefit.

Tuesday 17 March 2026 Pate’s Reading Week 2026 is the National Year of Reading, and the first week of March was this year's Pate's Reading Week. This is an annual event run by the Library team.

Monday 9 March 2026 Celebrating Year of the Horse Our AMAZING Lunar New Year celebration took place on Sunday 1 March, here at Pate's. It was another fabulous event, with stalls, lots of food and great performances from our Mandarin learners, plus incredible dance, music and song provided by the Chinese Culture Connection and Juju Dance Workshop (run by Patesian parents), and hot food provided by Cheltenham's 288 Bar and Wok. Culminating in an incredible professional lion dance, which really was a show in itself, we welcomed in the Year of the Horse in exceptional style! Thank you so much to all the performers, stall holders and guests for all you did to make this event such a memorable cultural delight.

Tuesday 3 March 2026 CCF RAF Cadets Named 4th in South West On Sunday 8 February, 13 cadets from the Pate's CCF RAF Section from Years 10 – 13 journeyed to RAF Halton to compete in the Royal Air Squadron Trophy (RAST) Competition for the South West Region.

Tuesday 3 March 2026 Year 10 Artists Visit Yorkshire On a wet Wednesday in February, Year 10 artists headed to Wakefield, armed with waterproofs and handmade sketchbooks to visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The aim of the trip was to view a range of artworks and explore the different ways in which to make sculpture, and the themes that this could cover. The 500-acre, outdoor and indoor sculpture park was the ideal destination for such discovery.

Monday 23 February 2026 A Life in Politics with Cheltenham’s MP On Friday 13 February, Max Wilkinson (MP for Cheltenham) visited Pate's to give a talk discussing his experience in politics, where he thinks young people interested in politics should be focusing their attention, and to answer questions from the audience of Sixth Form students.
