Admissions Criteria

For admission to Pate’s Sixth Form, a student must have:

  • A minimum total ‘points’ score across their best 8 GCSE grades of 57 points.
  • A minimum score of 6 in both Mathematics and English.
  • A predicted GCSE grade of at least a 7 in any subject to be studied at A Level, as specified in the Sixth Form Prospectus.
  • If a student is not studying GCSE or iGCSE, then NARIC equivalency must be sought by the applicant.

Additional information

Sciences
Whilst we accept students with a minimum grade 7 in GCSE double or individual Science, we feel that a grade 8 at GCSE is best preparation for studying these subjects at A Level. In addition, at least a grade 7 in Chemistry will be required to study Biology at A Level.

Maths & Further Maths
We also ask for a minimum grade 8 in GCSE Maths to study it at A Level.
To study Further Maths at A Level you will need to secure a grade 9 at GCSE.

Sixth Form Appeals

Parents/carers whose child has applied to be admitted to the Sixth Form but has not been offered a place are entitled to appeal against that decision to an independent Appeals Panel.

Parents/carers wishing to lodge an appeal for their child should contact admissions@patesgs.org to request an Appeal Application Form. Please note that appeals for Sixth Form cannot be accepted until after GCSE results day (20 August 2026)

In-Year Applications

Parents/carers should contact the School’s Admissions Officer (sixthformadmissions@patesgs.org) if they would like their child to be considered for an in-year admission. Please note that in-year applications are rarely successful as we always run at full capacity.
