Famelab Finalists 2026
Year 9 have been taking part in the regional scientific communication competition FameLab Academy 2026, run by Cheltenham Festivals.
Each student prepared a three minute speech on a STEM topic of their choice, and performed it in front of their science class peers. The Science department was really impressed by the hard work that went into researching these speeches and the bravery of every single member of the year group to stand up and speak. The class heats put forward ten school Finalists who competed against each other for a spot in the Regional Final.
Finalists and their topics were:
Adu: How F1 Cars Stick to the Road
Alana: The Effect of your Environment on Taste
Annie: The Science of Music
Anvi: Fear of the Unknown
Ben: How Fungi can Save the World
Eesha: AI
Kaspar: Prion Disease
Namya: Goosebumps
Tvakstha: Top Down Processing
Competition was fierce and our judges; Miss Rhodes, Mr Stoneman and Mr Douglas Acheampong (our external guest judge and former Cambridge FameLab Champion) had a particularly hard task, selecting just one student to send forward to represent Pate’s. In the end it was Alfie whose charismatic speech on the evolution of human communication won him the chance to present at the Regional Final in March… Good luck Alfie!
